Abby and Josh chose to meet me for their maternity photography session outside of 7 Hills Brewery in Dubuque, Iowa, where they had previously been on a date long ago. They chose 7 Hills because of its vibrant, clean brick and classy outdoor seating, which made for a great backdrop.
Abby and I met in high school, where she was a couple years my senior, always kind, and a total track star. We ran on our high school team together for a while before graduating, growing up and going our own ways. We hadn't spoken in years, but it was an immediate yes when she reached out asking me to capture her and Josh during their pregnancy.
Abby continued her track career into college where she studied at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Here she caught the eye of Josh, who was able to win her over for the long run. They have since married and made a home together. After catching up I learned that Wisconsin is now home to Abby as well, despite us both being from Iowa.
Lastly, Abby shared with me that this was not her first pregnancy, and that she wanted to include her rainbow baby in our session. She showed her memorial tattoo, and I admired her vulnerability, feeling quite honored to be able to document this life changing time for her and Josh.
Now, I'm able to look forward to meeting Baby Spencer in a few short weeks to document his tiny ten fingers and toes, smile, and the big love he is surrounded by in his new home near Dubuque, Iowa.
